PROGRAM FEATURES and EDGE

Engineering Management involves designing, operating and continuously improving systems by integrating engineering and management knowledge. The most important goal of the program is to prepare engineers, scientists and managers for professional practice as managers in the technology intensive world of the 21st century. In particular, the master of science degree program is well suited (content and delivery mode) to the practicing engineer.

The Engineering Management program at Missouri University of Science and Technology is one of the largest and oldest in the world. Areas of possible specialization include management of technology, industrial engineering, manufacturing, financial engineering and quality engineering.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Undergraduate Degree
A bachelor’s degree in engineering or hard science
GPA: Regular status: 3.0 cumulative and 3.0 on last 60 credit hours
Conditional status: 3.0 on last 60 credit hours
GRE: Regular status: V+A=1150, A=4.5
Conditional status: V+A=1100, A=4.5
TOEFL: All international applicants must submit a current TOEFL score, regardless of prior academic experience and place of study.

Regular status: 235
Conditional status: 220

Statement of Purpose
All applicants must submit a statement of purpose explaining the rationale for graduate study.

Conditional Admission
A 3.0 GPA must be attained in the first twelve (12) hours of graduate level courses is required to change the status to a regular student.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

Master of Science with Thesis
A minimum of 30 semester hours, normally including 24 hours
of graduate coursework and 6 hours of research.

Master of Science without Thesis
A minimum of 30 semester hours of graduate coursework with no credit hours of research.

Dual Master’s Program
Graduate students already holding or completing master's degree in engineering can obtain a second master's degree by completing additional 24 semester hours of graduate coursework.

Doctor of Philosophy Program
Inquire for specific requirements at the department.

The Graduate Certificate Programs are designed to provide graduate engineers and working professionals the opportunity to increase their knowledge in specific areas of interest. Applicants should have an engineering degree and at least 1 year of professional experience and to be admitted to the program.

Presently two graduate certificate programs are offered:

  • Project Management
  • Project Engineering and Construction Management

The student must have an average grade of 3.0 or better in four courses of the program to receive a Graduate Certificate.

If the four-course sequence is completed with a grade of B or better in each of the courses taken, the student can be admitted to the M.S. program. The certificate courses taken by students admitted to the master's program will count toward their master’s degrees.

ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT REQUIRED CORE COURSES

All students must take the following courses:

  • EMGT 365 – Operations Management Science
  • EMGT 314 – Management for Engineers
  • EMGT 361 – Project Management
  • EMGT 352 – Financial Decision Making

ENGINEERING EDUCATION CENTER IN ST. LOUIS

The Engineering Education Center serves the population of Greater St. Louis providing evening graduate programs in various engineering and computer-oriented disciplines. This service of Missouri University of Science and Technology is mostly intended for working engineers and computer specialists interested in enhancing their qualification and status through acquisition of an advanced degree.

The EEC was started in 1964 at the request of local industry. It has awarded over 2,500 master's degrees since its inception.
